NEWS Exhibits at The Society of Arts and Crafts and Fuller Museum of Art
"The The Society of Arts and Crafts in collaboration with the Fuller Museum of Art is honoring Lino Tagliapietra, Venetian glass maestro, with the Medal
for Excellence in Craft Award. The award was established by The Society in
1913 to honor master craft artists and others who have made significant
contributions to the field. In 1999, The Society of Arts and Crafts asked
curators, gallery owners, critics, collectors and educators in the craft
community from across the country to participate in the selection of the
recipient of the 2001 Medal for Excellence in Craft Award in
glass. Italian maestro Lino Tagliapietra was the overwhelming choice.
This year's Excellence in Craft Award program consists of a series of
special events: an exhibition of Lino's work at The Society; a
retrospective and a friends of Lino exhibition at the Fuller Museum;
glassblowing demonstrations, lectures, and slide presentations.
Lino's mastery of traditional glassblowing techniques, combined with two
decades of travel, teaching, and collaboration with other artists, has
earned him the honor of being the first international recipient of the
Medal for Excellence in Craft Award. Respect for Lino has expanded into
unabashed admiration in response to the burst of aesthetic growth in his
work over the past ten years. His commitment to sharing his expertise and
enthusiasm with glass artists and audiences around the world has had a
significant impact on the entire glass art community."
